Nordic Arts and Life Festival
Every year our team puts on the Nordic Arts and Life Festival, an event that brings together architecture, sculpture, and ice painting inside the hotel. The winter festival develops new forms of artistic and architectural expression for artists and creative types from near and far.
With Hôtel de Glace art director Serge Péloquin at the helm, the festival has three main thrusts: the Ephemeral Architecture Contest, ice sculpture, and the Ice Painting Symposium.
Ephemeral Architecture Contest
Festival organizers work with up-and-coming architects from Université Laval, UQAM, McGill University, and Université de Montréal in collaboration with architects Brière, Gilbert & Associates.
Throughout September and October, students come up with an original design for an Hôtel de Glace suite, using snow and ice as basic materials. Winners will have their suite built.
2010 winning designs
1st place: Suite 36 The Turning Chamber by Christina Chen and Nicole Chen from McGill University
2nd place: Suite 34 Ice Cubism by Jennifer Brière and Erin Weevers from McGill University
3rd place: Suite 33 Stalagmite by Joannie Brouillard from Université Laval
